While not the original or even the earliest, clearly the most famous of the vampire stories, is that of
Bram Stoker: “Dracula“. A midling actor in 1890 Dublin, Stoker knited together the legend of the real 15th centery Wallachian warload, Vlad, known as Impaler, with Romanian legends, from the Carpathian mountains, of blood suckers to create a compelling image. The timing of the book, with the start of early films may have lead to this image being picked up, first with the film, Nosferatu, later with the Bela Lugosi version of Dracula.
